Tata Institute of Social Sciences

The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS)  was established in 1936, as the Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work. The year 1964 was an important landmark in the history of the Institute when it was recognized as a Deemed University by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of India.

Tata Institute of Social Sciences
Is a Government of India Institution  which has earned recognition as an Institution of Repute  from different Ministries of the Government of India, various  State Governments, international agencies such as the United Nations,
Has been  ranked 1st continuously in the list of country’s best professional Institutions  prepared by Outlook-MRDA since 2009.
Is  recognised by WHO as a collaborating centre for Health, Policy Research & Training.
Has become  a partner in a consortium of 12 European Universities, including London School of Economics & 8 Indian Universities.

TISS – School of Vocational Education (TISS-SVE)
In December 2011, Tata Institute of Social Sciences set up the School of Vocational Education (SVE) with a view to provide vocational Training Programs.
 The project was initiated under the aegis of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE)  proposed by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.
TISS-SVE has propagated the  Work Integrated Training Program to give a boost to the Learning Ecosystem.

Concept of Work Integrated Training Program (WITP)
The WITP model provides the trainee the opportunity to enhance their skills and gain workplace‐based industry experience as a part of their Graduation program. For the trainee, the experience is valuable as training is built around the context of work, enabling them to learn by working and observing.

KEY FEATURES 
• To provide judicious mix of skills relating to a profession and appropriate content of General Education.

• To ensure that the students have adequate knowledge and skills, so that they are work ready at each exit point of the programme.

• To provide flexibility to the students by means of pre-defined entry and multiple exit points.

School of Vocational Education (SVE)
